Fortune Favors the Brave

by Ryan on February 8, 2011

In the fall of 2009 I received an email from a guy I’d met in high school 30 years ago. He was a TA in the Urban Pioneers, the SF public school outdoor education program that I credit with saving my life as I was a wayward teen making heaps of bad choices. We rock climbed, hiked, rappelled, and had lots of adventures together. Those were formative years, and I never looked back.

“I’m into this strength and fitness thing now” I reported, and I’m also into this style of eating called Paleo. “You’ll feel young again if you give it a go” I promised. I sent him a few book titles, and off he went.

A prolific baker, hunter and cook, he took the ball and ran with it. This was him in the fall of 2009:

Hard to believe this is the same person, this is a current picture of Dave Parsons.

He lives far from a gym, but as a builder stays active with construction and hunting. If you were with us during the Summer and Fall LEANing Challenges you may recall a host of recipes with pictures we posted on our blog, and many of those came from Dave as he enthusiastically soaked up all things Paleo. His transformation is inspiring, and if he had engaged with CrossFit during the last year and a half it would have happened even faster. Nutrition alone is a game changer, and nutrition mixed with CrossFit is an even more potent recipe for change.

Congrats to Dave, and to all of you out there that have made significant changes with your brave choices. Fortune favors the brave.
