If you recall from our blog “World Class Fitness in 100 Words” one of the tenets of CrossFit is to “regularly learn and play new sports”. This may just be the most overlooked tenet of CrossFit.
While CrossFit may just BE your sport, I would like to take this opportunity to encourage you to get out and try something new, or play a sport that you haven’t played for a while, see what CrossFit may have done for you.
This summer, I had the opportunity to take my own advice and wakeboard, something that I had not done for 10 years. I have water skiied for most of my life, but wakeboarding has always eluded me. Every time that I had tried it before, I was not really comfortable on the board, and while I got up and rode along just fine, all I ever really did was ride behind the boat. This year was different. Not only did I pop right up behind the boat, I was able to cross the wake, jump, and even do 180′s on my first pull! The only change that I can attribute to the difference is my new level of fitness brought to me by CrossFit. It was very interesting to me to see just how well CrossFit crosses over to apply to a completely unrelated sport. You have heard my story, now I challenge you to see what you are now capable of. Go try a pickup basketball game, throw a baseball or football with your kids, give rock climbing a shot. I bet you’ll amaze yourself!
