"Greasing the Bar," Pull Ups and "Wallaby"

By: 1 Comment

What with October’s Challenge being strict pull-ups, I’ve had lots of folks ask me what they can do to get better at this particular skill. Well, in addition to coming to Tuesday’s class and working on Pull-Ups during class time, there is another way of acheiving success – it’s called “greasing the bar.”

“What????”, you may ask. “Does this mean the coaches want me to cover the bar in coconut oil or bacon fat?” Well, no, not necessarily, although that does sound delicious…. “Greasing the bar” just means that whenever you have a few extra minutes before or after class, jump on those bars and do as many strict pull-ups as you can, scaled as needed. By consistently asking your body to do the movement, it will soon learn that “Hey! Apparently this isn’t going to stop, so I’d better figure out how to do these better!” You’ll soon see an improvement in both your strength and overall volume, and have a better chance of getting a big number on the Challenge Board!

So, with that tip to add to your arsenal of training tools, I’d better see you all jumping on those bars during the five minutes or so before classes, instead of standing around wishing you could do more!
